Joule thiefs and earth batteries
Much of what follows is based on the
work of others, including but not limited to pirate (on Utube)
. I became interested in the concept of earth batteries and joule
thief's a while back. Quite a bit of work has been done on using
modified disposable cameras to make these little beasts, If you have no
idea what I am talking about I strongly suggest that you
google "joule
thief" and "earth batteries" this should rapidly get you up to speed.
My first successful attempts used the Kodak disposable cameras, they
did work but I never thought they were optimum. Disposable cameras it
turns out vary considerably by brand and model, people seem to have
tried many different ones and getting the correct info for mods on any
particular model can be a daunting task.
The Fuji disposables seem to be preferred BUT even
among these there are at least three basic types.
After allot of experiments and destroyed camera circuits, I have
decided that the Fuji cameras labeled "continuous flash" seem to be by
far the best. what follows is the info that I have dissected from the
available info, this should make making these a bit simpler for all
those that would like to experiment with this concept.
My next step is (aka pirate) to combine these continuous
flash thiefs with simple earth batteries and supper caps stay tuned.
